The CETL's prototype injection molding machine was
designed by a senior year Mechanical Engineering Design Team. The machine
is a single shot, plunger type machine with a short cycle time that allows
easy production of limited quantities of parts. The concept was refined
using COSMOSWorks and the machine was built at the CETL. |
The finished PIM machine is capable of processing
a 4 oz shot at temperatures in excess of 700°F. The machine has a
clamping force of 50 tons and an injection pressure of 11,000 psi. This
combination allows the CETL to process high performance engineering grade
plastics. |
